Thing #23

WOW! Those weeks went by so fast and the things we learned was amazing.   I never knew there was so much out there on the computer.  I have learned so much and have tried o many new things.  I am working at bringing them into our library and using all the new  technologies out there that is available to everyone.  I do plan on using them to better myself and our hometown library.   Thank you so much for all the hard work everyone has put into this program and I will be watching for more to follow.

Thing #22

When you live in a small town there is not much volunteer work with different companies but there is plenty of volunteer work you can do through your hometown Church and with planned activities for children.   This is basicallty all the volunteer work that I do and sometimes that can be very exhausting but yet very fulfilling knowing that you were able to help others in times of need.

Thing #21

I am not very good at promoting myself but will try.   There are two things that I really enjoy doing and that is reading and doing crafts of all kinds.   I enjoy sharing my habits so the library is a good place for me to be.  The last great experience  for me was working with my Grandson to build a large igloo of milk jugs for our summer reading program.  It was big enough to 5 children to crawl inside and they had fun doing so.   It was great joy for me to see their faces as they played in and out of it.  I love working with children here in town and they are always challenging me to do new crafts and I enjoy showing them how.

thing 20

I started coming to my local library shortly after I moved here.  I love to read so what better place to go.  When I was asked if I would like to work part-time I jumpted at the chance.   I started doing kids prograqms and just loved it.  Our small town library is not very big, we live in a town of 350 people, but it is very Big in heart.   I later took over as Director 5 years ago and never realized there was so much to do but I still enjoy it very much and plan to stay here as long as they will let me.

Thing #19

I can't believe we have almost completed the 23 Things.  This has been very interesting and mind joggling experince for me.  I was never aware of so many web links available for public use.  I now have our library on facebook, have been know to twitter, have my calendar of events on Google, and really enjoy being Linkedin with other library groups.  This has been an experience I will never forget and will continue to use even after the program is over.   Thank you for letting me be a part of this great experience.

Thing #17

I am not fur sure this is going to help me in any way.  I am not a public speaker or anything like that but it was interesting to search through.  Ity will be stored in my memory if ever needed or if can help others to use it.

Thing #18

I never knew there was so many programs on the computer.  I just used it for facebook and playing games before.  This has really opened my eyes on a whole new world out there.  I an not for sure how poscasting and such will benefit our library but all of this new knowledge will be kept aware and available if there is ever need for it.

Thing #16

I feel that it  is very inportant to keep people informed on what's going on in their local community and also the history of it.  I am definitely not a professional writer but have written articles for our local newsletter that goes out each month to every home in Oakdale.  Most of the articles are related to whats going on at the library or about it.
I have never thought about writing articles for other newsletters.  But there is the first time for everything.

Things 13 & 14

I checked out all of these tools and am not sure how they would apply to my library but it was fun to explore them and to learn about them.   The library I work at is in a town of 350 people and I am the only one working here but will keep the information available if ever need to use it.   I will also keep it available if in some way I can help someone else to use it.

Thing #12

CPD 23 has opened many different avenues for me.  So many different links I had never heard of are out there for me to use.  Getting in there, exploring them and communicating with many other librarians and such has been very interesting.  Even after CPD23 I will keep up on facebook. linkedin and others to stay ahead of things going on in other libraries and around the world.

Thing # 11

This mentoring sounds like a very good idea but at the present time my mind is blank as to who it would be.  Over the years as I am learning to be a library director I have asked and learned alot from the other librarains in our county.   We get together every other month but I know if I had any questions I can always call one of them for an answer.  So I guess I have a group mentor.

Thing #10

When I moved back to the small town of Oakdale back in 2002 I started coming into the library. I love to read and what better place to go.   I would sit and visit with the librarian and when the job of assistant came up I applied for it.  I enjoyed planning and doing summer reading, and other projects with children in town.  In the year 2005 I took over as the Director.  I still plan and do many projects with the children of Oakdale and also for the adults.  I really love my job and plan to continue to better my job pervformance by reading and studing different things concerning the library.

Thing #9

All of this seems interesting and totally organized.   I don't know if my system can take such organization of everything.  But all is worth a try to see if can manage it..  Looking forward to seeing what is next on the list of things to read about and do.

Thing #8

This thing was rather fun and interesting all the same.  I now have my library claendar on my igoogle and can go to it anytime to get information.   I don't lead a very exciting life but there area few fun things on there for everyone to see.  This was one of the easiest things I have done but was thouroughly enjoyable too.   Hope everyone else is getting as much information out of these classes as I am

Thing #7

There are so many organizations out there and they seem very interesting.  I am not a very outspoken person so would be very difficult for me to join one.  I do belong to the County Library Board here in the county I live in.  I  will be seeing what else is in the area that I can join.

Thing #6

I did not realize there was so many different links that involved libraries.  It was very interesting to look them over and also signed up for some of them.  The one site I have used quite some time now is Facebook but never realized they had groups such as 23 Things that you could join.  I can see I willbe spending more time on the computer then ever have before.

Thing #5

This lesson was a hard one for me to do.  To reflect back on what I have already learned and how it has made a difference in my life.  Realizing there are so many different places to go and to see what others are doing is exciting.  I have enjoyed talking to and reading other librarians thoughts.  It worked great for me to be able to follow the hands on instructions.   I am slow at learning and getting acquainted with all the new technology and being able to apply it to our library, but it is beginning to work together for the good.  I plan on using all this new knowledge to become more aware of whats going on in other libraries and to use that knowledge here in Oakdale.

Thing 4

I can now twitter!  I am having so much fun following and doing all these exercises.  Some of the things seem kind of confusing but I just keep pushing on and hope I am doing it right.  I now have a twitter account, a google reader and much much more to follow.

Thing #3

It was rather strange to click on my name and 9 people in the USA have the same name.  Some of them had pictures there and some not.  I was the only one from Nebraska but the others were all over the states.  The picture they had for me was the one I use on my facebook account of my children.  I  don't take a very good picture so don't usually have picture of myself anywhere.  On the result pages they only list one of my children instead of all four.
I know when you look at my blog it is rather dull.  I will be working on it to spruce it up somehow.

Thing #2

I have been exploring some of the other participants and have left a few messages.  It was very interested to read what others have said.  I guess I am not the only one who has had a few problems with getting things going and getting into the programs.  It is very interesting and more of a challenge then thought it would be but I will continue on.

Lifelong Learning

I listened to the 7 1/2 habits video and found it was very interesting.  The easiest one for me to do , I think, would be number 2, accept responsibility for your own learning.  It would be hard for me to figure out which would be the most difficult because I don't have alot of confidence in myself and the technology part will be a challenge because I don't know alot about computers and the many uses for them.  But I am more then willing to learn in that area.

Taking Part in Nebraska Learns 2.0

I am taking part in the Nebraska Learns 2.0 because it sounds very interesting.  I am always trying to find new ways to better myself and for the library that I work at.  I am not very good on the computer so this will be achallenge for me to do things on the computer and to learn new methods on the web.

Wednesday, July 6, 2011

I am back from vacation to hot and sunny Indiana and am now ready to get busy and get my Nebraska Learns 2.0 up and going.

I did It

I am trying to get to know my computer better and this is how I am going to start.
